Brandon Glover

In the Summer of 2006, Limbach launched its newly restructured Limbach Engineering & Management Training (LEMT) Program. The purpose of the program is to recruit top college graduates with interest in the engineering and construction management industry and orient and develop the program’s recruits to become the future leaders of our company.  Our LEMTs go through an in-depth training and mentoring process in which they are introduced to the many facets of the industry from Estimating to On-The-Job-Training. During this process, our trainees are encouraged to explore and embrace aspects of the job that they feel will develop a career they will truly enjoy. Brandon Glover is one of the first LEMT recruits, hired at our Harper Limbach Orlando Branch. Hear what he has to say about his experience with the program.

Q: Were you a College Hire / Intern / Transfer?
A: “College Hire.”

Q: How did you find out about Limbach?
A: “A family member who has been a longtime employee of the company introduced me to Limbach.”

Q: What made you want to work for this company? Was there anything that stood out in particular?
A: “I previously worked in the Construction/HVAC industry for a smaller, regional business, but they had no administrative positions available. So, the opportunity to work for a nationally recognized company with immense room for growth was extremely appealing.”

Q: How did you hear about the LEMT program?
A: “I had already applied for a job at Limbach, it was during the interview that I was introduced to the LEMT Program; it was exactly what I was looking for.  The program offers a direct plan for career advancement, while still allowing the opportunity to be hands-on in the field versus being stuck behind a desk writing purchasing orders!

“Initially, Management was interested mostly in graduates with an engineering background, but the Project Management side of the industry takes a great deal of business and management skills. Luckily, they decided to take a chance on someone with more of a business background and no training as an engineer. As the only "non-engineering" hire, I kind of feel as if I have something to prove, and hopefully, I can open the door for other graduates with non-traditional construction degrees.”

Q: What is your current assignment?
A: “LEMT.”

Q: Current Responsibilities:
A: “I am currently finishing up the first phase of the program, Estimating. I am putting together an entire bid for a project from start to finish and will present it to upper management and my mentor. Then I will be moving on to fieldwork as the Project Engineer for the Florida Hospital South Project.”

Q: What have you learned so far?
A: “Actually, since I had zero experience in estimating, I’ve learned a lot! I’ve learned how to do a complete job-takeoff, how to look at a project from a financial aspect, such as, counting equipment and what to look for, cost items, needed for a project.”

Q: What kind of support have you received during this learning process?
A: “During the process I found that everyone is incredibly supportive of the LEMTs and the Program.  Everyone here truly practices an “open door policy” and is willing to make time to help, even when they don’t really have time to make. And being that I have a business background, not engineering, they took this into consideration and were able to explain things fully and in a manner that I was able to understand.”

Q: What have you liked most about the program?
A: “By far, my favorite aspect of this program is the involvement and interest that upper management has in our progression through the program.  They encourage us to find our niche in the industry and decide for ourselves what will fit us best, even if it’s something that we come across and aren’t directly training for. And the program is like an accelerated version of training, so we really get to experience a lot of different aspects of the industry.”

Q: What do you hope to accomplish (goals)?
A: “Well, since I haven’t experienced much in the field yet, at this point I want to be able to run a job as a Project Manager and truly be knowledgeable about the industry.”
