Q. College Hire / Intern / Transfer?
A. College
Hire
Q. How did you find out about Limbach?
A. The faculty at Ferris State announced that Limbach would be coming to
the university looking to fill a project management position. Limbach
had also sent pamphlets to Ferris explaining the type of work they perform,
the history of Limbach, and the new project management-training program
they started. (LEMT).
Q. What made you want to work for this company? Was there anything that
stood out in particular?
A. One thing about Limbach that really stood
out from other companies in the industry was the training program they
offer. With their training,
you are able to gain the knowledge needed to becoming a successful employee. You
have the opportunity to experience first-hand the different departments
within Limbach and see how each operates to create a successful team.
In Addition, Limbach stood out to me because one of my professors at college had previously been an employee at Limbach. He told me what a dynamic company Limbach is, and how great it was to work for them.
Q. How did you hear about the LEMT Program?
A.
Researching the company prior
to my interview, I read about the program on their website. I was
able to learn more about the LEMT program during the interview process.
Q. Current Assignment:
A. Commissioning
Q. Current Responsibilities:
A.
Currently, I am working in our commissioning
department, where I have many responsibilities. We work on all the
current jobs, going through the equipment with our start-up technicians,
to ensure that the equipment is operating as it was designed to operate. Currently,
I am working at the MGM Casino, tracking equipment that has been installed
and is ready to be commissioned.
Q. What have you learned so far?
A.
First, I started off in our Estimating
department where I learned a great deal on how we bid jobs. I became
familiar with the estimating system that Limbach uses, as well as understanding
the bidding spreadsheets. Being
in the estimating department also gave me a great opportunity to really
understand the drawings and the specification books. After a few months
in that department learning the basics, I was given the opportunity to
work on complete job take-offs for our special project jobs. I did everything
from going on the walk-thru to handing in the bid. In our commissioning
department, I have learned what it takes to document all the equipment
on the job for proper start-up and system performance.
Q. What kind of support have you received during this learning process?
A.
The
support from Limbach’s entire staff has been simply amazing. While
in estimating, I was given the guidance and support needed to gain confidence
in learning their estimating system. Currently in commissioning, I
am receiving support from the commissioning manager by learning how to
deal with problems as they arrive, along with creating relations with
the customers and employees at the jobsite. Everyone at Limbach has
been willing to do whatever they can, at anytime, to help me learn and
become more comfortable with the way Limbach does business.
Q. What have
you liked most about the program?
A.
The best part about the program is I’m learning new things everyday. Since
I’m able to spend time in each department within Limbach, I’ll
get a taste of everything. I’m getting the opportunity to experience
the office, participate in meetings, and working on many diverse job
sites. There
is always something different or new each day that keeps me on my toes.
Q. What do you hope to accomplish (goals)?
A.
I am looking forward to accomplishing
the LEMT program upon completing the next couple of steps. After finishing
the program, my goal is to become an asset to the company as a project
manager.
