In the Summer of 2006, Limbach launched its newly restructured Limbach Engineering & Management Training (LEMT) Program. The purpose of the program is to recruit top college graduates with interest in the engineering and construction management industry and orient and develop the program’s recruits to become the future leaders of our company. Our LEMTs go through an in-depth training and mentoring process in which they are introduced to the many facets of the industry from Estimating to On-The-Job-Training. During this process, our trainees are encouraged to explore and embrace aspects of the job that they feel will develop a career they will truly enjoy. Leo Rocha is one of the first LEMT recruits, hired at our Harper Limbach Orlando Branch. Hear what he has to say about his experience with the program.
Q: Were you a College Hire / Intern / Transfer?
A: “College Hire.”
Q: How did you find out about Limbach/LEMT Program?
A: “Well, I’ve been involved with Student
ASHRAE at UCF, so I’ve known of a lot of the companies within
this industry, but I was introduced to Harper Limbach and the LEMT
program when Kyle Davis [LEMT Regional Rep-Orlando] approached me about
his interest in me for the program. He explained to me the details
of the program and brought me a brochure and information on it. He
then set up an interview for me with some of the upper management from
the company.”
Q: What made you want to work for this company? Was there
anything that stood out in particular?
A: “I had interviewed with a few other companies
within the HVAC industry, but no one had such a well-structured program
as Limbach. Also, I was really impressed with the people. Some companies
offer a really great work environment, but the pay isn’t so well
or the pay could be great and you could be miserable working there.
This company has the best of both worlds! The people here really are
great.”
Q: What is your current assignment?
A: “LEMT.”
Q: Current Responsibilities:
A: “Right now, I’m working in the Estimating
department learning how Limbach gets business. Estimating is really
where it all begins. Just to name a few, we learn about the invitation
to bid, how to check-in drawings, read through the specifications manual
and drawings, use company software to perform digitizer take-offs for
sheetmetal, HVAC pipe, and plumbing trades, and how to set up the final
estimation bid or FEB for a job.”
Q: What have you learned so far?
A: “Well, I learned you really have to do a
good job; be really thorough and time efficient…you have to
economize the estimate.”
Q: What kind of support have you received during this
learning process?
A: “Oh! Well, from the estimating department
alone, we get a lot of support. We can ask anyone of the estimators
here for help and they will drop whatever they are doing immediately
to help us out. Everyone is there for us and no one ever seems bothered
or says ‘come back later’, which, personally, turns me
away. Plus, it’s fun working in the estimating department; no
two days are ever the same and the days go by fast.”
Q: What have you liked most about the program?
A: “Honestly? I like the lunch-and-learn meetings
that are scheduled with the sales representatives and different subcontractors.
Here we have the opportunity to learn about HVAC equipment, controls,
and services that make up our projects. It also gives the chance
to meet and form professional relations with the different sales representatives
and subcontractors.
Q: What do you hope to accomplish (goals)?
A: “I want to stay in Florida. In about
20 years, I would like to be part of the upper management team and
help bring Harper Limbach to the next level.
