Connie Miller

What is your current role?
Service Sales Representative

Why did you decide to be on the WICS advisory council?
To better understand the role of women in our industry; to enhance the role that women take at Limbach, as they lean toward management or other leadership positions; to engage with others who share similar goals, and to further enhance my career.

What is the biggest change you would like to see come out of the WICS effort/initiative?
More women in management, leadership roles and trade positions.

What would you tell someone if they were interested in supporting this effort? How can they help?
Are you up for the challenge to help create change from within the organization? Participate in mentoring, help with surveys, reach out to high school students about trades, read/research the challenges of WICS- reporting on findings.   Join a women's business professional group.

What's your favorite part of your job?
Meeting new people, understanding client business processes. Creating client specific solutions that are synergistic with Limbach business units.

What advice would you give someone starting out in this industry?
Read, meet people, join a professional organization, find a mentor- educate yourself or get whatever training you can.

What is the biggest change you have seen in the construction industry since you started?
More women doing what I am doing; better and more efficient software to measure success; more professional demeanor requirements; more stringent safety procedures.

Who inspires you and why?
My friend Ed, who was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer roughly 5 months ago. He takes each day as it comes; has a wonderful attitude about beating the odds, goes to the gym every day, changed his entire eating regimen, made significant changes to his professional life, helps manage his company from a distance (even while on disability) and still manages to make everyone around him still feel great to be in his presence.

What’s the best career advice you ever received?
Work smarter, not harder. Count to 10 before you respond in anger.

What (work related thing) keeps you up at night?
Missed opportunities, stressing about communication with others, (what could be better),

What would surprise us about you?
I can drive a front end loader/earth mover, and once had a job doing so.
