What is your current role?
Executive Assistant / Office Manager
Why did you decide to be on the WICS advisory council?
I want to help shape the future for women in the construction industry by assisting in breaking the barriers and developing a program to recruit, retain, empower and advance women here at Limbach. I want to listen and be a voice for the women in our branch, make sure their supervisors are hearing them, and help provide them with the tools and training that they need to advance their careers and reach their goals.
What is the biggest change you would like to see come out of the WICS effort/initiative? I would like to see Limbach set the example for breaking barriers in the construction industry and make us THE construction company that women pursue because we have a diverse management team.
What would you tell someone if they were interested in supporting this effort? How can they help?
Check out the WICS objectives that we are tackling, decide which one you are passionate about, and ask to join the team. There is something for everyone…Training & Development, Marketing, Recruiting, and People & Culture. It is essential that we listen to those already in the industry, so if you think you can help or if you have a new idea, speak up!
What's your favorite part of your job?
I work with some amazing people and I enjoy my job. I wear many hats and never get bored. I love to help others so being the “go to” person is definitely my thing.
What advice would you give someone starting out in this industry?
Listen, Pay Attention and Ask Questions! Once you finally get the hang of things, you will gain the trust and respect of your coworkers. Just remember…it will take time, but everyone has to start somewhere.
What is the biggest change you have seen in the construction industry since you started?
The attitude about safety has changed dramatically. Safety is a priority and companies now have implemented health and safety standards and training as a regular part of company culture.
Who inspires you and why?
My husband inspires me. He dreams big and makes things happen. Most of his big ideas start with a napkin and a pen during a dinner date and next thing you know we are running an ATV riding club and campground where we get to spend quality outdoor fun time with our five kids.
What’s the best career advice you ever received?
Find a job that you enjoy doing or it just becomes work.
What (work related thing) keeps you up at night?
Did I change the travel profile setting to Jay Sharp or did I just book that trip for me???
I grew up in Cairo, Egypt.
