Limbach to Host 200 L.A. High School Students As They Build Dog and Play Houses for Charity and Learn About the Trades
Saturday, November 16
Los Angeles, CA – November 4, 2019 The building industry faces a critical shortage of skilled craftspeople that is affecting 70% of construction companies across the country, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. The completion of many projects is delayed or otherwise impacted because of this shortage. The Limbach Company, a national specialty contractor with offices in Los Angeles, is proactively addressing this workforce shortage by hosting a day-long Build Day for 200 high school students participating in the ACE Mentor Program of Los Angeles/Orange County (ACE L.A./O.C.). Build Day is intended to counter many high school students’ negative impressions of construction careers.
Date: Saturday, November 16
Time: 8:00 AM (start)
Location: Limbach parking lot, 1709 Apollo Court, Seal Beach, CA
As they build and decorate dog and play houses, students will learn about rewarding skilled crafts careers that do not require a college degree. Student projects will be donated to local charities or auctioned at ACE L.A./O.C.’s Spotlight Award event on February 20, 2020, raising scholarship funds for ACE students entering skilled trades training programs and college. The ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) Mentor Program captures the interest of high school students in the design and construction industry, just as they begin to seriously explore career options. During the free 16-session after school program, volunteer professionals from all industry sectors lead students through a realistic simulation of designing and constructing and expose them to a full range of career paths.
In addition to Limbach staff, ACE mentors from many local firms will be on hand to assist students during the Build Day event.
