CASE STUDY:
New Covert Generating Station – Ongoing Power Plant Maintenance
OVERVIEW
The LMB/CMI team provides comprehensive mechanical maintenance services for the New Covert Generating Station, a 1,100 MW combined-cycle natural gas power generation facility that plays a critical role in supplying reliable electricity throughout southwest Michigan.
As a long-term maintenance partner to Consumers Energy, the team supports both scheduled spring and fall outages while providing year-round mechanical maintenance services to help maximize plant reliability, equipment performance, and operational efficiency. Planned outages are essential to maintaining the safe and reliable operation of power generation facilities, requiring experienced mechanical specialists who can execute complex maintenance activities within tight shutdown windows.
During these outages, the LMB/CMI team performs maintenance, inspections, repairs, and component replacements on the plant’s Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) and other critical auxiliary systems. Their expertise helps identify potential issues before they impact operations, reducing unplanned downtime and extending the life of essential equipment.
With approximately 25,000 labor hours dedicated annually to the facility, the team provides the skilled workforce, technical expertise, and detailed planning necessary to safely execute outage work while supporting the plant’s ongoing operational goals. By combining proactive maintenance with responsive mechanical support, LMB/CMI helps Consumers Energy maintain dependable power generation for the communities it serves.
