THE CHALLENGE.

For this unique, design-assist project, Limbach was tasked with replacing 7 critical air handling units (AHU’s) totaling 139,200 CFM, 281 variable air volume boxes (VAV’s), and upgrading the old pneumatic controls system to a digital building automation system. The project prompted numerous challenges:

  • Site Safety
  • Congested Mechanical Rooms
  • 5 Day Replacement Window
  • Minimal Available Downtime

THE SOLUTION.

To deliver a safe and efficient project for Mount Carmel, our team:

  • Developed a comprehensive phasing plan to utilize the existing equipment temporarily before bringing the new AHU’s online so shutdowns were kept to a minimum
  • Prefabricated the new ductwork and piping vestibules needed for the air handling units offsite in our fabrication shop – helping the schedule and reducing the safety risk onsite
  • To help provide better accessibility to the mechanical rooms, our engineering team reconfigured the new mechanical rooms so the rooms could be easily assessed and serviced by the Mount Carmel & Limbach teams.

*This project was awarded the 2019 AGC Build Ohio Award – Specialty Category
