THE CHALLENGE.
When the newly-constructed West Middle School opened, our team of engineers began tracking their electric, natural gas and water bills and benchmarking them against peer buildings. The new school was energy-efficient but its water usage was 4X more than expected.
THE SOLUTION.
Through a detailed investigation on-site and with the water company, our team discovered an error in the water company’s automated meter reading. The automated reader’s data template had been set up incorrectly, and the High-Flow reading reported ten times the actual usage into the billing system. When the error was corrected, the new school’s water usage settled into the expected benchmark.
